It’s now official, TrueCrypt 5.0 has been released and it sounds like there are some neat new features in this latest release, for example whole disk encryption and improved performance.
In addition OS X is finally supported and I’m sure TrueCrypt will be a welcome replacement/alternative to file vault.
I’ve used TrueCrypt for quite some time and it is by far my favorite solution for encrypting my data. I will be installing and setting up 5.0 in the next week or so. I plan to encrypt the entire HDD on my home desktop machine… not that I really need to for security purposes, but mainly because now that TrueCrypt supports whole disk encryption… why not? (yes I know this was possible with other products in the past but there were various things that I didn’t like about these products).
