If you’ve ever had the displeasure of installing a fresh copy of Windows XP on a new machine, or perhaps you’ve decided that it’s time to wipe the hard drive and start over with a fresh install of Windows. You’ll soon discover that installing service pack 2 along with every single patch 100+ is about as daunting as it gets. Well one man by the name of Alek Patsouris is trying to alleviate this process with Project Dakota.
Project Dakota aims to make it a breezed to deploy a copy of Windows XP by providing all Windows XP SP2 updates on one downloadable CD.
The nice thing about using a CD versus downloading from Microsoft is that you don’t have to put your unpatched machine on the Internet to download the patches, which is something I’ve always been leery of doing. In either case this is definitely a must have.
