Developers working with Bit Torrent technology are gearing up to take it to the next level against filtering techniques used by ISPs especially Comcast. The life of the network administrator is about to become a miserable existence as clever Bit Torrent developers are planning to bypass filtering techniques through the use of a new encryption proposal.
This week Comcast came forward and provided the FCC with a long drawn out document (50+) pages explaining how they were “interfering” with Bit Torrent traffic. It turns out that most of what they say in this document is not entirely true, to sum it up in a sentence. Comcast was disconnecting customers using a peer reset message.
Developers in the Bit Torrent community turn to more advanced countermeasures, they decide that obscuring the IP-ports used in typical Bit Torrent communication should not only thwart reset packets, but should also prevent ISPs from blocking or limiting bandwidth on these connections as well.
While this proposal is still under development you can expect to see it in the near future being used in all Bit Torrent clients.
It’s going to be interesting, buckle your seat belt and enjoy the ride.
