How Americans Spend Their Money

February 17th, 2008 · No Comments

I just came across two interesting charts in the New York Times. The first chart presents the spending of the American household by the three economic classes. According to the chart the upper class spend most of their money on taxes, and the lower class spend most of their money on housing costs. Education spending among the lower class and middle class are almost exactly the same, while the upper class spending on education is four times higher.

The second chart illustrates the consumption of products & resources from electricity to the Internet. It seems that while technology took an average of 10 to 15 years to catch on in the early 20th century, new technology catches on in around 5 years in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
