The Do Not Call Registry works pretty well, putting an end to most phone spam. For the longest time the registry had one major flaw, as anyone who has registered their phone number knows, they needed to re-register after 5 years of being on the list.
Thankfully last month the house and senate both combined their bills for the Do Not Call Registry and the president has signed Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 (H.R. 3541, the Senate counterpart was S.2096) and now the 5 year auto-expiration is history.
If you are signing up for telephone service one of the first things you need to do is register your number with DNCR, otherwise be prepared for a bombardment of telemarketing calls.
