According to an article at PC Magazine, just yesterday Adobe announced the release date of Director 11. It seems like a lifetime since the last upgrade, which was back about 3 years ago. This new release seems to be targeting game developers more than ever.
Ageia PhysX for game physics and support for DirectX 3D graphics has been added to this latest release along with a completely revamped tool set. Apparently Adobe is watching the transformation of the game industry, trends have emerged and game development has changed. Independent games like “Portal” and “Every Day Shooter” are becoming more popular and development times and resources are changing. Director 11 should provide the tools for developers to easily create these games.
The important point to remember about game development in Director, is the capacity of audience who has a shockwave plug-in. Games created in Director have a huge audience almost immediately. Of course Director will also always have its e-learning development market which has been strong for over a decade.
Adobe Director 11 will be available for purchase at the end of March for $999, down from the current price of $1,199. Upgrades from previous versions cost $299, and a Student version costs just $99. More information is available on Adobe’s Web site.
