According to the Washington Post the following technologies are dying or are pretty much dead. I got a kick out of the date ranges for these, especially the concept of blind dating and body hair.
- Truly ‘Blind’ Dates b. when Adam met Eve — d. 2000s
- Mix Tapes b. 1963 — d. 1990s
- Land Lines b. late 1870s — d. early 2000s
- Short Basketball Shorts b. 1936 — d. 2003
- Doing Nothing at the Office b. 1853 — d. mid-1990s
- Cigarettes b. 1800s — d. 2008
- Phone Sex b. late 1870s — d. mid-1990s
- Getting Lost b. dawn of man — d. 1990s
- Cash b. pre-600 B.C. — d. early 2000s
- Body Hair b. early man (very hairy!) — d. 2000s
- Having the Blues b. time immemorial — d. 1990s
I’m not really sure why something is considered “dead” if the date is all the way to present day as in cigarettes, but I don’t smoke and I definitely wouldn’t start when they are over $4.50 a pack! Mix tapes isn’t a surprise, short basketball shorts… um haven’t they been dead for like 20+ years. I’m not sure I agree with cash, land lines, and body hair… well yes, maybe body hair is out now.
Interesting list none the less.
