I’ve put together a sample template I printed and laminated for which I use when sketching out UI elements for iPhone application ideas. Below is the template preview and a download link to a .png full sized image, feel free to print and use.

I’m deeply entrenched in learning Objective-C at the moment due to my overwhelming obsession to create an iPhone application. However, within the past couple of months I’ve taken note of some interesting tools that rely heavily on JavaScript and HTML to allow developers (particularly web) to create mobile phone applications without knowing anything about Objective-C.

Today as I discovered an open source development tool called “PhoneGap” which allows a developer with JavaScript and HTML knowledge to build a mobile application.

From the PhoneGap site:

If you’re a web developer who wants to build mobile applications in HTML and JavaScript while still taking advantage of the core features in the iPhone, Android and Blackberry SDKs, PhoneGap is for you.

Take note that not only is this an iPhone development tool, but also Android and Blackberry.

The other is tool is called “Atlas” and it’s a development environment which is powered by Cappuccino and built on top of standard web technologies like JavaScript.

These technologies are amazing, but they say something more profoundly important in that web developers realize that the future is on the mobile platform and they need to be there to stay relevant.  Thankfully they’ve decided to share these tools!

Yesterday was the official release of the G1, so of course we start seeing more and more of these “fan made” videos.  This video sort of reminds me of the hardware on which the first Android phones are appearing, it’s cheap and repetitive.  None the less take a look:

I think it’s an important to open up the “TV Whitespace” to allow wifi innovation.  This morning I signed the petition and I would also encourage anyone else to do the same.  Minnie Ingersoll explains what “TV Whitespace” is and how it could play a vital role in wifi innovation.

Yesterday (unless your living under a very large object) you probably couldn’t get away from the news that Apple released the 3G Iphone at all their Apple and AT&T stores.

I’m not buying a 3G Iphone, in fact I’m looking for a 1st gen model, I’ve heard a lot about 2.0 firmware update and it seems that the firmware is actually one of the most compelling new parts of this model, yes I know I wont have access to a 3G network… blah blah blah… but I don’t want it!

Apparently there were also issues getting the phone to activate in stores yesterday… so I’ve heard that some people were told to activate through Itunes (which is how it should have been to begin with).

I just came across this video at wired.com which just about sums up the day those people standing in line must have had…

This is great, being able to watch the WWDC Steve Jobs keynote in 60 seconds versus 1 hour and 47 minutes.  Don’t get me wrong, I think Steve is a very influential speaker, but there’s just something about getting it all in such a short span of time that appeals to me.

BBtv has a good episode on very simple Iphone Jailbreaking.  Damien Stolarz says “It started out very complicated, but these days uh… if you’ve ever heard of a script kiddie, uh… hacking your iphone has gotten to script kiddie simplicity”

It turns out that with the click of a mouse using an application on a computer you have connected your iphone to you too can unlock your iphone.  The application you’ll need is called iLiberty+

I always enjoy technology/gadget reviews that Joel Johnson produces for BBtv.  His review of the Iraq Voice Response Translator is priceless.

I’m am super impressed by the built-in compass feature of Android, especially when combined with something like Google’s own street view.  Just watch the video to judge for yourself.
